Packaging Yourself in Paper – How to Write Resumes
The world is full of different kinds of job opportunities out there; but one can’t really land a job unless you make the very first step – and that is writing a resume. Everyone can write resumes, but not everyone can write good ones. It is really important that you know how to write resumes because your resume would be like the “sneak preview” of your potential employers.
Resumes are like the first line of defense of job seekers. Before applicants are called for an interview, their resumes are reviewed first to check if they have the possibility of landing a job in the company.
First Things First
In writing your resume, make sure that you include significant information about yourself like your name, age, status, address, educational background, etc. The university or college that you graduated should be highlighted as well as the course that you graduated from. That way, potential employers will know right away if you have what it takes to work in their company.
Always remember to include a picture of you (perhaps a 2×2 sized picture would do) so that potential employers can have an idea as to what you look like. It is a known fact that there are some jobs that give importance to physical appearance, so as much as possible, try to look your best in the picture that you will attach in your resume.
Highlighting Your Strengths
Whether you think that you are the cream of the crop or just an ordinary job-seeker, you don’t want to make your resume look too over-convincing but neither would you want your resume to look too bland and lacking.
The secret in writing a good resume is to blend and match your strengths with the qualifications that you are applying for. For you to do that, you have to know the qualifications of the job that you are applying for. Potential employers prefer applicants that seem to have their strengths match up with the job requirements.
Elegance and Simplicity is the Key
Don’t try to make your resume too artsy because it might send a wrong impression to potential employers. Remember, when applying for a job, you want to give off a formal, competent and professional impression.
As much as possible, try using a font that is simple, elegant and easy to read. Arial and Times New Roman are the most preferred fonts for resumes. Don’t make your fonts too small or too big. The most recommended fonts for resumes are size 10 or 12.
Honesty is the Best Policy
Perhaps the most important tip on how to write resumes is to observe honesty. If you want to land your dream job, or simple find a decent job, you have to be honest and accurate in giving information about yourself. You don’t really want to suffer the consequences of being dishonest in the middle of being employed, right? So, go ahead, write that resume and bring home the bacon!
