Writing Down Your Goals – The Power of Seeing Them on Paper

Manifest Your Dreams With The Power of Writing Down Your Goals

One of the best ways to ensure you accomplish all of your goals is to commit them to paper. Writing down goals is a way to transform them from abstract thoughts to concrete goals.

Research by Gail Matthews, Ph.D. at Dominican University provides empirical evidence for the effectiveness of three coaching tools: accountability, commitment and writing down one’s goals. This study demonstrates the importance of writing one’s goal because writing down goals enhances goal achievement and supports the positive effect of written goals.

The most effective way to accomplish all your goals is to commit them to paper in specific, measurable detail. Write down the goal and a specific date by which to accomplish it on a piece of paper as a daily committed reminder. For example, write “I will lose 15 pounds by June 3rd, 2013.” Something generic like “I want to lose weight” will not be helpful in reaching your goals.

It is also important to set goals that are directly aligned with each person’s life mission, purpose and passion. The authentic self will reveal it’s true needs and desires through the process of self-reflection through writing.

It is important to follow through, commit and be accountable so after writing down the goals, share the goals with others and take 10 minutes every day to imagine how great it will feel when the goals are actually realized.

The Three Main Benefits to Writing Down Your Goals:

1. It forces us to clearly define what our goals are and provides life clarity and direction. It creates a benchmark for tracking our life progress in addition to providing a process of reflective thinking or self-observation.

2. It stimulates creativity and the subconscious mind, helping us to get in touch with our inner wisdom, as well as, providing better problem solving ability. At any given moment, there are a myriad of thoughts, ideas, and insights in our mind, waiting to be released through writing.

3. It provides a positive, encouraging, and engaging method of dealing with challenges and obstacles in life.

Writing is a proven and powerful tool that we have been equipped with and it should be utilized in achieving the ideal lives we desire. It has the ability to greatly touch other people, to positively transform our lives, to move people to take massive action, and to accomplish monumental dreams.
